Music can be the soul of a movie. The heartbeat that brings a film to life. When I was 14 years old, I first saw John Carpenter's Escape from New York, and I remember it was the first time I became aware of the effect music had on the viewer. I remember my heart racing as Carpenter's brilliant soundtrack thumped and pulsed along. I've been a life long musician, who studied classical piano as a child, and spent my teens and 20's playing in rock bands and writing and recording music. Along with co-writer/engineer/guitarist Frank Garfi, (and a stable of incredibly talented musicians), I began scoring films in 2003 as part of Insane-o-rama. Over the years, we have created a series of intense, moody film scores. In addition to scoring our own films (First Night in the New House, Hell Fire, Zombies Anonymous and Strange Things Happen at Sundown) we have scored for other filmmakers as well (including the films Pink Eye, Flick's Chicks, and Satan's Schoolgirls). Frank Garfi has decades of experience as a recording engineer and producer, with several gold and platinum records under his belt. He's worked closely with The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow, KISS, Neil Young, REM, Alice Cooper, Don Henley, Sting, Primus, The Ramons, Phil Collins, Transiberian Orchestra, Color Me Badd, Julio Iglesias, and Keith Richards, among others.
We work out of Frank's state-of-the-art home recording studio. We have access to a variety of offbeat instruments, including a Theramin, a Slapaphone, and tons of percussion instruments. We enjoy working closely with directors while scoring their films, to find the right musical themes, the perfect accents, and a score that gets the blood boiling.
